Going to start this one off by saying this is not being written to downplay anyone’s artistry. Simply to offer an understanding of why a licensed artist is your best option. The reason artists are granted licenses is because they did two things. First they completed their education which entails all aspects of the beauty industry. It is no so glitzy to learn about diseases of the scalp, fungus on the toes or skin irregularities but none the less a necessity! Secondly the artist must apply for a state license and pass their state board test. This test entails a practical & written portion and lasts approximately 8 hours. If both parts are successfully completed a license is granted & required to be kept current for the duration of the technicians career. Maintaining a license means being held accountable for all procedures performed not only to clients but to the state. If an artist does not adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations their liscensed can be suspended or revoked.
What does this matter to you? Everything!! Sanitation is key in preventing the spread of diseases. How do you feel about someone using a dirty brush on your hair? Toe separators from someone else’s feet? A lipstick that has touched a strangers lips? Maybe a foundation brush used on skin with open lesions? Disgusting, I know. An unlicensed artist has no social or state responsibility. They have no risk or care if they cause harm because they only report to themselves. Would you let a “doctor” who taught themselves how to perform surgery by watching Grey’s Anatomy & reading Wikipedia put you under the knife? Then why let an un-licensed artist play with your health .

Unite Go365 is seriously your next favorite hairspray. It has a three in one quality of going from light to firm hold with just the twist of a nozzle. The hairspray has three options light, medium, and heavy hold, they all work great. Go365 is practical for everyday use and a night out or special event. When used on the light setting it does a fantastic job taming minor frizz around the hairline, the firm setting can hold an up-do in place all night & medium hold is fantastic for men’s styling. Go365 is 100% vegan, paraben free, sodium chloride free & gluten-free and smells delicious! It does not leave any type of build up and is safe for all hair types including those with keratin/brazilian treated, chemically retexturized, colored, thick wavy, fine, etc. Simply move nozzle to desired setting, aim and spray about 8-12 inches away from hair. Professionally speaking its awesome to be able to have one go to spray instead of 3, helps de-clutter the styling station and is a necessity for on-location special events like weddings

UNITE 7Seconds spray in detangler is a dream. To start the product is 100% Vegan, paraben free, sodium chloride free, sulfate free, and the packaging is made from post consumer waste. It smells delightful and helps protect your hair from heat while detangling and conditioning. 7Seconds works on all hair types & lengths without leaving any type of residue or weight, as leave-in conditioners usually do. You can spray liberally roots to ends, (longer hair uses about 5-6 pumps & shorter hair 2-3) comb, and style as desired. It also works great on already dry hair that is tangled or in between washes to offer light conditioning. Before doing water activities you can use it to prevent excess chlorine or salt from being absorbed into the hair shaft. UNITE 7Seconds is just an all around great styling product for all hairtypes.

Its essential purpose is to hydrate dry skin & like most other masks it works best after cleansing and exfoliationg skin. Depending on skin type it should be used once every 1-3 weeks and left on skin about 10-15 minutes. Now here comes the “Double the Fun” part! You can leave this product on for extended periods of time and your skin will slowly absorb it. The mask leaves skin hydrated and non-greasy because of its gel water-like consistency. My personal favorite use for it is sunburn after care. You can use it all over your body on sun burnt areas, after cleansing area apply and leave on overnight to re-hydrate skin. It works amazing and feels cool going on.If your skin type is dry, mature, or sunburnt AVEDA Intensive Hydrating Masque should definitely be in your repertoire.

Kenra Finishing Spray #26 is superb at holding a finished look and smells magnificent. This is a heavy hold spray meaning its the last thing you put on your hair once you’ve accomplished your desired hairstyle. Great for up-do’s or special occasion styling that needs to last day and night.

Kenra Working Spray #14 is excellent for pre-styling (safe to spray on dry hair before curling, crimping, etc) and offers a workable hold. It can also be used as a finishing spray if you’re not looking for extreme hold. Another great trick is to spray a small amount on flyaways and smooth down, its gets them down without having to use an oil based product. Neither of these are sticky or tacky. They offer the hold the bottle promises and are safe to use on hair types and styles.

After using this product your going to question where it has been your whole life. Moroccan Oil Hydrating Styling Creme works on every hair type (yes that’s all truth!!) The hydrating creme offers light shine, extreme moisture and frizz control. It has a watered down creme consistency, not to thick, making it easier to apply.

Like with most styling products you want to apply from your hair ends moving upward toward your scalp. If applied on damp hair, curly or straight, and left to air dry it acts as a styling product and leave-in conditioner. It can also be used before blow-drying hair to smooth ends, relax wave/curl, and add moisture.

Been using Clinique’s Even Better Moisturizer with spf 20 about 3 times a week for the past 4 months ( The reason I was not using it everyday was because I usually use a tinted moisturizer to help even out skin tone under my make-up). Moisturizer should be used after cleansing and toning once/twice daily. When you first apply about a nickel sized amount it does feel a bit heavy, but after about 5 minutes it settles. The moisturizer sits on the skin well, doesn’t feel greasy, or like it’s clogging your pores. Not only does it offer the daily benefits of moisturization and sun protection it also helps even out skin tone. It minimized redness & appearance of scars. Its suited for all skin types (mine being extremely sensitive, acne-prone & oily) and actually holds true to what the label reads, skin tone correcting moisturizer with sun protection.

AVEDA’s Smoothing Fluid has many uses including smoothing frizz, adding shine, detangling & conditioning. It is an oil type product that you can apply to your hair wet or dry by simply adding 1-2 pumps (depending on hair thickness/length) starting from your ends and working up. If applied when hair is wet/damp it will help make combing through tangles much easier by offering light conditioning and gives hair a natural looking amount of shine while air drying. It also helps protect you hair from damage if you choose to heat style (blowdry, flat-iron, etc.) If applied in between washes or after hair has been styled it will tame frizzy ends and add shine while conditioning. Easy to use, suitable for all hair types, usable on wet or dry hair, not oily looking or feeling, and it is made of all natural products including the packaging!!

For the past few weeks I’ve experimented with AVEDA’s Brilliant Universal Styling cream. It’s intended to help smooth hair during heat styling or as a gel. Its creamy, almost has a stickiness to it. Typically I would only use it only on curly, coarse or wavy hair types but while experimenting it’s proven to work really good on all hair types. After applying about a dime size amount throughout your hair working from your ends up, blow-drying isn’t so much of a task. It makes the brush flow through the hair easier, tamed frizz, added shine and softness. Also works as a gel, gives the hold without the hardness and smooths little unruly hairs right at the root. It really is a Brilliant Universal Style Cream! It has multiple uses,is suitable for most hair-types, and gives a beautiful shine.
